Monsters Vs. The Aliens From Planet Claire

Last week Mrs. Kaiser and I took the kids to see Monsters Vs. Aliens... It was okay, I guess. The kids dug it! I enjoyed the 3D. Boy, has that technology come a long way! Back in the old days I would give up on a 3D movie half-way through with a splitting headache. With the new three dimensional  techniques being employed I had a good time watching the movie even though the script was poor. But that isn't what this post is about; it's about The B-52's.

Monsters Vs. Aliens ends with "Planet Claire", and my kids really liked it! As far as I know they had never heard it before. They have heard "Rock Lobster" - as it is in another kid's movie that we have lying around H.Q. - and they really enjoy that one as well. So, being the neat-o dad that I am, I dug around the boxes of records in the garage (of course all the good ones are in the house! Sheesh... I am a record nut, fer crying-out-loud) and found The B-52's self-titled debut album to play for the young 'uns. They were pleased-as-punch to listen to the aforementioned tracks quite a few times in a row, but could easily leave the other 7 tracks of the long-player behind. Actually, that was a bit of a let-down because I was always partial to "6060-842". That may be because my 1st B-52's purchase was the "Rock Lobster" 45 b/w "6060-842", which I now realize (and here is the kicker of this whole post)... was 30 years ago! I was the same age (roughly) as my oldest daughter when I 1st bought a brand new, recently recorded B-52's record.

The music from my youth is now technically Oldies!!

As my aunt would say (whilst butchering the lyrics of one Steve Miller): "Time keeps on passing, passing, passing into the future".

I went on YouTube to find a video of The B-52's to show the kids... What is it with bands and record labels forcing official, low-quality music videos off YouTube?! Did they not read about Monty Python and the amount of money they are making by making high-quality videos available on YouTube? But I (as usual) digress. I didn't find a video of "Rock Lobster", "Planet Claire", or even "6060-842", but I found something even better than a goofy production video... a clip from (presumably) some Television show of the band lip-syncing my personal favorite B-52's song - "Private Idaho".
